2011-11-20

Peewee Blue, Finalists at the Holy Name Ice Breaker Tournament

The Saints Peewee B Blue team participated in the 14th Annual Holy Name Icebreaker Tournament in Springfield Massachusetts from the 18th to the 20th of November…..

Shaking off those dreaded “car legs” the Blues opened tournament play with a win. Following the game players and their families helped Coach Jason Briggs celebrate his birthday with a family style dinner. In the morning the Saints played a tough game vs the Maine Lightning as they skated to a 0-0 tie. The afternoon saw the Saints skate against the Demons. The team put in a great effort on offense, defense and special teams to roll to a 5-0 victory. The Blues fell behind early in game three 1-0 but with a birth in the Championship game looming the team turned it up a notch coming back to knot the game 2-2 heading into the third period. With around 5:00 minutes left to play Kyle Peters found the back of the net solidifying their place in the Championship Game. The Championship game was a close exciting affair with the Maine Lighting holding a 1-0 lead into the third period. In the end the Lighting prevailed in the Championship game. It was a special weekend of youth hockey with the addition of a milestone birthday celebration shared by the players, coaches and families. A good time was had by all. The Blue team currently leads their NJYHL league division in win percentage (.818) at 8-1-2.
