Former Saint and New City Resident Mike Gillespie

Lincoln Stars forward Mike Gillespie committed to Western Michigan University, he announced via Twitter on Wednesday.

Lincoln, Neb. – Lincoln Stars forward Mike Gillespie committed to Western Michigan University, he announced via Twitter on Wednesday.

“I feel like the coaching staff and the facilities at Western Michigan are going to help me get to the next level,” Gillespie said. “The coaches work on your game a lot and turn you into a pro.”

Gillespie has posted 49 points through 82 games with the Stars. The 5’9” 175 pound forward shared the team lead in scoring with 34 points in the 2014-2015 season.

Gillespie scored one goal in eight games for the Ohio State Buckeyes before re-joining the Stars midway through last season.

“Going to a small school is the best fit for me,” Gillespie said. “I’m a guy that just wants to play hockey and they give me the best chance to do that and improve.”

Lincoln enters this season with 17 committed players. Gillespie will join teammate Ethen Frank at WMU.
