The Ramapo Saints 2015/16 Tier II AA program is proud to announce our coaching Staff. This program is designed to prepare players for the Tier I AAA level. The highly reputable Coaching staff listed below will be supported by Assistant Hockey and Team Development Director Larry Mahurter.

Coaching Staff
•Squirt AA – Frank Kern Head Coach and Assistant Hockey Director/Player Development
Coach Kern is a Certified Physical Education teacher with over 35 years of coaching experience.
Frank has coached at every level of the game from mites to high school varsity head coach. An all around athlete Frank played AAA baseball and attended New York Mets training camp. After a successful High School career he skated for Queens College and played in the Metropolitan Junior Hockey League. As a Certified Personal Trainer he has over thirty years of off ice / off field strength, conditioning and athletic performance experience.
•Peewee AA – Gary Hess Head Coach and Ramapo Saints Director of Hockey Operations
For more than 40 years the ice has been home to Gary as a player, mentor, coach and instructor.
Off the ice Gary solidifies hockey as the "game of his lifetime" with accomplishments as an administrator, director and mentor. A USA Hockey level 4 Certified Coach he has managed and coached at all levels including, Juniors, AAA Midget hockey, travel hockey Mites to Midgets, as well as dozens of house and instructional leagues and teams.
•Bantam AA – Andrew Frey
Andrew played travel hockey for the JC Capitals up thru midgets where his team played for a USA Hockey National Title. He played 4 years of varsity at Hudson Catholic under Glen Hefferan, Peter Jerobeck, Corey Robinson and Frank McGady. Andrew coached at both the JV and Varsity level at Hudson Catholic. Andrew has also coached travel hockey at the Peewee and Midget levels with the Bayonne Rangers and the Jersey Penguins. Most recently he coach at the Bantam level for the Ramapo Saints. For many years Andrew has served as a referee for USA Hockey often called upon to work high level games. He enjoys refereeing but coaching remains his passion. He looks forward to "getting kids to compete consistently every day“. Andrew enjoys and excels off the ice with his post game video classroom breakdown and analysis sessions.
•Larry Mahurter – Assistant Hockey Director/Team Development
Coach Mahurter has been a High School varsity coach for over 22 years. He is the current Varsity Head Coach for Saint Joseph Regional High School in Montvale, NJ. Along the way he has built a 281-164-47 career record while earning Bergen County and Passaic County Coach of the Year Awards. As a youth hockey coach he successfully guided both boys and girls teams to regular season league championships, state championships and USA hockey regional finals. As a player Mahurter led St Josephs Regional High School to a NJ State Championship in 1985 while collecting All State and all Gordon conference selections. He played collegiate hockey at New England College. Coach Mahurter will utilize his prior coaching experiences and techniques both on and off the ice to develop and enhance the hockey IQ and abilities of the Ramapo Saint players. He is a USA Hockey Level IV certified coach.
