Peewee B White Champs on ice in Delaware

Champions of the St. Patty's Day Smackdown at The Pond Ice Arena in Newark, DE...

The Saints traveled down to Newark, Delaware for the 2015 St. Patty’s Day Smackdown tournament hosted by The Pond Ice Arena. The team went undefeated in the preliminary round defeating the New Jersey Wild 3-0 and the Delaware Stars 4-3 before beating the Randolph Rams (PeeWee A) 2-0 in an exciting contest.

The championship game featured a rematch between the Saints and the Rams that proved to be quite a thriller. The Saints got out to an early lead, just 28 seconds into the game when Jeremy Moynihan (assisted by Shane Straubinger) buried a rebound to put the Saints ahead 1-0. Trailing 2-1 late in the 1st period, Owen Roy (assisted by Jake Amos-Flom and Max Amos-Flom) delivered a one-timer into the back of the net off a nice feed from Jake Amos-Flom to tie the game at two apiece. Trailing once again, the Saints entered their final period of the season determined to #findaway, a motto the team used throughout the season. The Saints responded just over two minutes into the 3rd period when T.J. O’Sullivan (assisted by Matt Gierek) fired a wrist shot that evened the score once again and sparked the Saints bench. The final 10 minutes of play and 5 minute overtime featured some excellent goaltending from Saints goaltender Jonathan Vitti.

The game would be decided with a 5 man shoot out. The goaltenders went save for save in the first 2.5 rounds before Nathan Kucinski found the back of the net with a nifty deke in round 3. Vitti would deny the Rams shooter in the 4th round and leave the game in the hands of T.J. O’Sullivan. O’Sullivan would beat the Rams goaltender with a wrist shot on the glove side and send the players, coaches, and parents into celebration mode. A story book ending to a very memorable season.
